Effective Date: January 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Device Based Redirect WordPress plugin processes data. The plugin enables website owners to use one smart link that automatically detects a user’s device (iOS, Android, or Desktop) and redirects them to an appropriate destination URL.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing related to this plugin is:
Franz Berg
Device Based Redirect
Email: support@devicebasedredirect.com
Website: https://devicebasedredirect.com
2. Data Processed by the Plugin
The plugin performs non-invasive device detection to determine whether a user is:
– using an iOS device
– using an Android device
– using a desktop or laptop computer
Types of data processed (temporarily during the request):
Category | Description
———|————
Device information | Operating system (iOS/Android/Desktop), browser type
Basic HTTP request data | User-Agent string
Redirect destination | The URL to which the user is forwarded (e.g., App Store, Google Play, or website)
Important: The plugin does not store any personal data, does not build profiles, and does not send data to third parties. All detection is based solely on short-lived request information and simple User-Agent checks.
Note for Pro Users
If the Pro version is activated, the plugin also stores:
– Click counts (anonymous)
– Device type statistics (iOS/Android/Desktop)
– Timestamps of clicks
This data is stored locally in your WordPress database and is never shared with third parties. No IP addresses, names, or other personally identifiable information is collected.
3. Purpose of Processing
The data is processed exclusively to:
– detect the user’s device type
– redirect the user to the correct destination:
◦ iOS → App Store
◦ Android → Google Play
◦ Desktop → Website
◦ Fallback URL → if no matching device-specific URL is configured
This improves user experience and simplifies multi-platform app linking.
4. Legal Basis
The legal basis for processing is:
Article 6(1)(f) GDPR – Legitimate Interest
Our legitimate interest is to provide users with a convenient and device-optimized redirection experience.
Since no personal data is stored, tracked, analyzed, or shared with third parties, no consent is required.
5. Data Storage
The plugin:
– stores no personal data
– sets no cookies
– performs no user tracking
– transmits no data to external services
Free tier: No click data is stored after reaching the 1,000 click limit.
Pro tier: Anonymous click statistics are stored locally in your WordPress database indefinitely (or until you delete them).
All device detection happens only during the user’s page request and is not persisted.
6. Data Sharing
The plugin does not share data with third parties.
When users are redirected to external sites (e.g., App Store, Google Play), their respective privacy policies apply.
7. Rights of Data Subjects
Since the plugin does not store or process personal data in a persistent manner, individual GDPR rights such as:
– access
– deletion
– rectification
– data portability
do not apply in practice.
Users may still contact the controller with questions.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect legal or technical changes. The version published on this page is the current one.
